A general interest evening when members are asked to bring any interesting clocks or watches to show and discuss.

POLISHING AND RE-FINISHING MARBLE CLOCKS

Sid Lines, an experienced horologist, will discuss and demonstrate his method of re-finishing marble cased clocks

WORKSHOP – 20TH CENTURY ENGLISH CLOCKS

Large scale clock production started in the 1920’s and ended in the early 70’s. During this period a large number of enterprises were started some of which had success for a period, others had longer lived success. The evening will be opened by a short presentation on Enfield clocks, followed by a discussion of interesting clocks brought by members.

MAKING LONG CASE CLOCKS IN THE 18th CENTURY

John Robey, Author, Publisher and Horologist wrote the two volume book ‘The Longcase Clock reference book’. Unlike many, this book isn’t a coffee table work full of beautiful colour photos. It is, however, the best book on the technical and historical aspects of Longcase Clocks. John’s talk provides fascinating information about 18th century clock making in the UK.

EARLY ENGLISH CLOCKS

David Thompson, Curator of Horology, British Museum. David, a long time supporter of the Club, will be discussing Early English Clocks, the finest collection of which is held by the British Museum.

VISIT TO THE MUSEUMS OF THE BLACKFOREST

Members interested in joining this tour must speak to the Secretary before the end of 2005.

EVOLUTION OF THE POCKET WATCH

Philip Priestley, Club Member and widely acknowledged expert on pocket watches will be discussing the evolution and development of the pocket watch.

GARDEN PARTY

This will be held at 3pm at Datchworth and will be the first solely social event which the Club has held for several years.

THE WATCHMAKER’S LATHE

Francis Brodie, Freelance clocks conservator, Lecturer & Advisor to the Victoria and Albert Museum. Francis will talk about the watchmaker’s lathe and demonstrate its use.

THE REBIRTH OF A TOMPION

John Day, Club Member, and an enthusiastic horologist will talk about the restoration of a dilapidated Tompion pocket watch.

VISIT TO THE BRITISH MUSEUM

to inspect the fabulous watch collection with David Thompson, Curator of Horology.

HARRISON’S CLOCKS

Andrew King, the acknowledged expert on Harrison, will be talking about his clocks including early work with wooden longcase movements and his long running struggle to produce an accurate chronometer.

WORKSHOP – BLACK FOREST CLOCKS

After our summer tour of the Black Forest we will be holding a workshop evening on Cuckoo and other Black Forest Clocks.
